Frequently asked questions
- 01
A tooth gem is a small jewel professionally bonded to the surface of your tooth using the same dental-grade materials used by dentists for orthodontic attachments.
The process is completely non-invasive and does not require drilling or damaging your tooth.
- 02
Not at all.
The application process is quick, painless, and does not require needles or numbing. Most appointments take 15–20 minutes from start to finish.
- 03
With proper care, tooth gems can last months or even years.
However, they are considered temporary jewelry and may eventually come off naturally depending on habits like brushing, eating, and biting. The majority of our clients keep their gems for 1-3 years but many still have their gems at 5+ years.
- 04
No.
Tooth gems are applied to the surface of the enamel only using dental grade bonding materials. The process does not drill into the tooth and does not permanently alter it.
When removed properly by a dentist, your tooth returns to its natural surface.

We recommend waiting 1-2 hours after application before eating and sticking with softer foods until the following day. After that, we recommend avoiding very hard, sticky or crunchy foods like peanut brittle, candy apples, taffy, (or chewing ice).

Continue brushing with a manual tooth brush and flossing as usual. Good oral hygiene actually helps keep your gem looking bright and secure. It is also important to continue professional cleanings and exams.

Short answer: no - and there’s a good reason for that.
Diamonds have a pointed back (called a pavilion), so they can’t sit flat against the tooth on their own. They’re also extremely smooth, which means bonding material doesn’t grip to them well.
The gold or platinum bezel solves both of these issues. It creates a flat, secure base for proper adhesion and protects the edges of the diamond so it sits comfortably on the tooth.
It’s not just for looks - it’s what makes diamond tooth gems safe, secure, and long-lasting.
